Three former employees of the Nadi Town Council have been charged with abuse of office each.

Former Nadi Town special administrator Aisea Tuidraki, former chief executive officer of the Nadi Town Council and currently the director of health services in Nadi Sakaraia Serau, and former senior rate accounts officer of the Nadi Town Council Suresh Chand, appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.

Tuidraki and Serau were charged with one count each of abuse of office while Chand was charged with seven counts of abuse of office.

The charges were brought before the court by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, following investigations between December 8 and 17, 2009.

Tuidraki and Serau were not represented by any lawyer but they have told the court that they will engage a private lawyer on their next appearance. Chand was represented by Hari Ram of Ram’s Law.

The accused have been told to surrender all their travel documents and to report at their nearest Police Station once every month.

They were also reminded by the court to not interfere with prosecution witnesses.

The case has been transferred to the High Court in Lautoka and they will be appearing on November 12.
