Babasiga Lion galloped his way to edge Pepsi at the Blue Gas Horseracing Championship in Ba, yesterday.

Owner Asik Ali was happy after Pepsi had beaten Babasiga Lion last month.

“This is a revenge for Babasiga Lion since we lost during the Bainimarama Challenge,”Ali said.

He said they had been training for the 2000metre race for a month.

“Even with the short preparation time we were determined to win the challenge,” he said.

Originally from Labasa, Babasiga Lion has been based in Sigatoka for four years and led throughout the race.

Chief guest and Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment Parveen Kumar promised to improve the racing course.

“The Government will see that by next year there will be seats and washrooms for spectators since we are getting good crowds for this competition,” he said.

Meanwhile, in other categories Fanta with jockey Mohammed Azam scooped the one-mile race while Mana Commando with jockey Ajit Singh won the third grade one-mile Cup race.
