WOW Walk Completes 462kilometres

The WOWS Kids Walk around Viti Levu that began on October 6 ended last Saturday at the Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva after walking 462 kilometres.
The essentially two-week walk-a-thon was held to raise funds and awareness for the Walk on Walk Strong (WOWS) cancer campaign.
Leading the WOWS walk challenge was Laughing Samoan Eteuati Ete who took two weeks off from his busy touring schedule to join the epic journey.
WOWS Kids chairman Makarava Wilson said the 30-day walk was gruesome.
“It’s been a gruesome 30 days; it wasn’t easy for us because most of us didn’t train for the walk like Etuate Ete. We are grateful to the 11 villagers and some schools that we stopped at who had been very hospitable to us,” Mr Wilson said.
“We would like to thank the overwhelming support by the general public and various support organisations.”
He said funds raised would be announced this week.
“We haven’t actually been able to put a figure to it, funds are still being collected and counted. Hopefully by next week (this week) we should be able to let the general public know as to how much we’ve actually collected,” Mr Wilson said.
The event ended on a high note with eight people volunteering to shave their hair in the WOWS Shave programme followed through with a free concert by Rako Pasefika.
