The New Zealand Ambassador for the Pacific Economic Development and a former New Zealand politician, Matua Shane Jones, has a positive message for Fiji.
It is that New Zealand is looking forward to working with Fijian stakeholders to turn our country into the true regional hub it deserves to be.
This confidence from New Zealand surely reaffirms what the Fijian Government has been saying and doing all this while in order to achieve our true hub potential.
But as Mr Jones pointed out, although we have the potential, we should not be complacent because our neighbours, Papua New Guinea, is also vying to become the regional hub.
Every opportunity we miss can become an added advantage for them and we cannot really afford to give them the upper hand.
We have the right businesses, the right business environment, the confidence of the private sector, the shipping links, the air links and much more.
There might be some things which need to be tweaked here and there but the prospects look good.
Our local investment seems to be at an all-time high as has been highlighted by the Fiji Sun over the past few months.
Projects worth millions of dollars are starting to take shape or are on the drawing boards expected to take shape following the relevant approvals.
Investment Fiji and the Ministry of Industry and Trade are working on the online investment approval system.
Furthermore, even the Suva City Council seems to have jumped on the bandwagon to take advantage of this investment boom.
SCC special administrator Chandu Umaria has confirmed that the Suva City foreshore carpark will be turned into a multi-million-dollar hotel soon.
Given all these and more to come, surely we can reach our hub potential.
