Getting Ready For Cyclone Season: Red Cross Briefing
The Fiji Red Cross pre-cyclone briefing activity is due every year.

The Fiji Red Cross Society conducted pre-cyclone briefings in the Northern and Western divisions.

The aim of the pre-cyclone briefings is to inform the society’s stakeholders on its roles and core mandates in disaster response.

This helps to strengthen its network with stakeholders in disaster management.

Stakeholder representatives from the National Fire Authority, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Fiji Police Force, Provincial Development District Offices, Ministry of Water, Transport and Public Utilities, Republic of Fiji Military Forces and Fiji Electricity Authority were present at the briefings.

The Fiji Red Cross pre-cyclone briefing activity is done every year before the cyclone season.

The society’s disaster management officers did the briefing with the support of the respective divisional service centre coordinators.

Refresher training was also conducted with Fiji Red Cross branch volunteers throughout Fiji on:

– disaster pre-position (DP),

– container stock management,

– initial damage assessment (IDA),

– branch situation report (SITREP),

– emergency operation centre (EOC) set up,

– the use of emergency communication equipment.

The Fiji Red Cross Society not only works in times of disasters, but throughout the year by working with communities better equip themselves through disaster preparedness.
