Staff of the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management held a morning tea reception yesterday throughout the country to commemorate Diwali.

Deputy Secretary Setareki Tale said Diwali was an important event as it signified light over darkness.

“Having Diwali celebration in all Ministry offices makes the management happy to see the unity in the workforce because only then we can prosper and deliver the service effectively to those we serve,” Mr Tale said.

“It is also about celebrating both long and new friendships. This Diwali commemoration is an opportunity to show our respect to the Hindu community.”

He urged the staff to enjoy the holiday and to consider the true meaning of Diwali.

“The celebration was a participatory effort by staff members to say thank you to our Hindu brothers and sisters for their contributions to the ministry and the country,” Mr Tale said.
