While some did their shopping days before Diwali some people waited till the last minute.

Naresh Prasad and his 12- year old son Lawrence, from Wailekutu, Lami did their last minute shopping for firecrackers yesterday.

Mr Prasad said he was working all week and didn’t have time to come out shopping with his children.

“We just came out today mostly to buy more firecrackers because the ones that were bought previously had run out and we needed to buy more,” Mr Prasad said.

Mr Prasad, a single parent of teenage children, said they were aware that some products were on special in stores on the last day which they liked to take advantage of.

He said they were spending $180 on firecrackers alone.

“Firecrackers play a big part in Diwali especially with the children. We like to spend our money on this day because its special and it only comes once a year,” Mr Prasad said.

Jagdish Kumar was shopping for some items they forgot to buy earlier.

“There were just some small things that we had forgotten to buy like small essential items for the pooja (prayer),” Mr Kumar said.
