Sacrificing Diwali

The Vodafone Fiji Under-20 football team and officials sacrificed their Diwali holiday to attend camp at the Fiji Football Academy in Suva yesterday.

The Ravinesh Kumar-coached side continues with its preparations while its families celebrated the annual festival of light.

“Players are sacrificing their Diwali to be in camp,” Kumar said.

“It’s a big call and I’m impressed with their attitude and performance during training.”

The side is gearing up for its tour to Australia and the OFC President’s Cup in New Zealand next month.
The team departs for Australia on November 2 where it plays three matches in Sydney before it departs for New Zealand on November 12 for the OFC President’s Cup.

Fiji is in Group B alongside favourites Busaiteen (Bahrain) and Amicale FC from Vanuatu.

“Amicale has Fijian players Osea Vakatalesau and Amani Makoe,” Kumar said.

“They will be tough but this is a good challenge to the boys and will also test their performance.”

Three players will miss the Australia tour next month because of academic commitments.

They are Misiwani Nairube, Ashneel Raju who will be sitting their Year 13 exams while New Zealand based Altaaf Sahib will be having his college examinations and would join the team in New Zealand.
