Trial Run For Fijiana

The Telecom Fijiana 7s squad departed yesterday to compete in the Central Coast 7s tournament this weekend in Australia.

The side is using this tournament as a building ground towards the 2014/15 IRB Women’s Sevens World Series in Dubai on December 4-5.

Coach Iliesa Tanivula says the side’s fitness level will be tested at the tournament, something which they had been working on.

“It is another trial run for us to have a look at our fitness level,” Tanivula said.

“This is a good opportunity to expose the girls to intense rugby as we get closer to the international series in December.”
Tanivula anticipates a competitive tournament this weekend and is hoping to come out victorious.

“I believe it will be a tough tournament as clubs from Australia and New Zealand are taking part and we hope to finish in the top four.”
And apart from testing the fitness level and the combination, Tanivula is optimistic to scout more players.

“There have been a few emails going forward and back showing the interest of girls in Australia.

“This will be a good opportunity to get there and have a look because these players will be coming down with their respective clubs.”

The side is led by Rusila Nagasau.
