S.J. Dayaram is ready to undertake a $7 million development of a modern shopping complex in Savusavu.

The complex will be one of the first such developments for the North, in particular, Savusavu.

The ground level will be for J. Dayaram and Company’s existing supermarket and 12 retail shops and 8 kiosk (food court).

The four-storey complex will also have parking spaces for about 25 vehicles and options for more levels depending on the demand.

Managing director, Umesh Dayaram, confirmed the $7 million investment would be financed either by Bank South Pacific or the Fiji Development Bank.

“This is our personal property and is located in the heart of the hidden paradise of Savusavu town,” he said.

Mr Dayaram said they hope to begin with the ground works by next month or December and will take about a year and half for construction works to complete.

“We are currently working with the architects on the final figure. The rent rates will be finalised soon,” he said.

They are expecting the building to be ready by 2016.

Expressions of interest

The company has therefore called for expressions of interest for those wanting to lease and operate retail and food court space. At the moment, the company is waiting for tenders from the contractors.

“We had called for tender sand are still waiting for the contractors to make their submissions,” Mr Dayaram said.

“Lots of employment will be created, also a good opportunity for people of the Vanu Levu.

“The general public will benefit from this project since it is a totally new development for Vanua Levu.”

Mr Dayaram said their future plans are that if development goes well, more complexes will be developed of this sort.

S.J Dayaram started operations  in 1954, as registered specialised general merchants, owners of  a supermarket and a building which is being leased out in Savusavu town.
