New GPH Stamp And Envelope Launched

Five new stamps featuring the Grand Pacific Hotel were officially launched this week.

Post Fiji, as well the Grand Pacific Hotel, are the initiators behind these new stamps and envelope.

Hotel general manager, Eugen Diethelm, stressed it took a while to come up with the concept.

Post Fiji chairman Lawrence Tikaram said they were proud to be associated with the “Grand Old Lady” in promoting her to the world through these stamps.

“It took quite a while when Joseph from Post Fiji and myself had the idea to create the GPH stamps,” Mr Diethelm.

“But now we finally are ready and happy and proud to present you the GPH stamps.

Post Fiji as well the Grand Pacific Hotel are now selling these five stamps. They have also created a stamp collector envelope with all the five stamps.

He added the envelope was for sale at the hotel for $10.

“From now on, maybe you stop writing emails, go back to the good old days and write letters, and of course use the GPH stamps,” he said.

The different values assigned by Post Fiji for the stamps are 40 cents, 65 cents, 90 cents, $1.20 and $5.

Mr Tikaram said: “These values are high in demand for letter and parcel postage locally and to countries like Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States of America.

“Having these stamps on letters and parcels being sent to family and friends overseas, is an indirect form of marketing awareness for the hotel and most importantly Fiji.

“We also have a commendable number of interested overseas stamp collectors that have ordered this commemorative stamp issue as keepsake.

“The last GPH stamp issue printed by Post Fiji was back in 1979 and we still have minimal stocks available with our philatelic department for those of you who may be interested.”
