It was a dream come true yesterday for Private Josefa Qolikoro, 23,  of Laucala, Wailevu, Cakaudrove.

He was awarded the Best All Round Recruit Award during the Fiji Military Forces passing-out parade at Nasinu.

Private Qolikoro was among the 199 soldiers who graduated at the Forces Training Group in Nasinu yesterday after completing 12 weeks of intensive military training.

He said it has always been his dream to join the army.

“It was my childhood dream to become a soldier so that’s why I have come back to the military to further my career. I look forward to the Cadet Officers’ course that is two weeks away,” Private Qolikoro said.

“The training was very challenging because we went through a lot of obstacles, but I was able to cope with it. I maintained self-discipline throughout the course and I was able to win.

“Throughout the training, the only thing I did was just working hard and being disciplined at every aspect of the course. I did very well in other parts of the course which enabled me to win this award,” he said.

Mr Qolikoro, an environmental science graduate from the Fiji National University was a former Police officer.

His brother-in-law, Jone Saumi, a soldier said although Josefa had pursued other careers after completing his secondary school education, joining the military had always been his passion.

“He graduated from the Police Academy in Nasova a year ago and he was posted to the Police Mobile Unit in Nasinu. After that he was always asking me when we would be having another recruit. He applied with all the requirements.

“Today, we are happy and fortunate to have this guy, who has always been obedient, humble and patient,” he said.
