The Grand Pacific Hotel’s Swiss Bakery is now officially open for business.

The Swiss Bakery now has moved to its own shop after it was temporarily operating out of the corner of the hotel’s great lobby. It serves a variety of specially baked Swiss pastries and others.

Hotel general manager Eugen Diethelm said there was a delay in the officially opening because of the importation of bakery items.

“It was a delay because we had to wait for all the items which we bought entirely from Switzerland,”Mr Diethelm said. Now we have it here and everything is ready.

“We have moved our cooling system from the lobby out to the bakery, we open every day from 8am to 10pm in the evening.

“We sell fresh bread, pastries, tortes and other items at affordable prices.

“It’s the work of our executive pastry chef, Peter Grubben and his dedicated team which  had trained since March.

“From 4pm to 6pm we will be selling all the pastries for the day at half a price because we don’t want it for the next day.”

The overall setup cost of the Swiss bakery was $25,000. The hotel is targeting everybody in Fiji with this bakery.

“I have opened it in Cambodia, Kenya, and Fiji. It is always a big success because the difference is big.

“You need to have the right knowledge which is important with the right items.

“The biggest challenge we faced was bringing the items from Switzerland to Fiji which was a big work to buy it.”
