Expect More Rain: Weather Office

Rain is expected to continue in most part of the country, the Fiji Meteorological Office in Nadi has predicted.

The bad weather is caused by a trough of low pressure system, with associated cloud and rain that is slowly moving just to the North of Fiji.

There will be periods of rain and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Northern Lau group. There will be occasional showers experienced in other parts of the country.

The cyclone season in Fiji lasts from November to April.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Service website, the 2013/14 Tropical Cyclone Season Outlook in the Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre (RSMC) Nadi – Tropical Cyclone Centre Area of Responsibility (AOR) report said four to eight (4 to 8) tropical cyclones are expected to occur in the RSMC Nadi AOR during the 2013/14 season. Below average TC activity is likely for Samoa, Tokelau, Niue and the Cook Islands, while average to above average for Wallis and Futuna, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Tuvalu and Fiji.
