Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he is honoured and humbled by the support he received to lead Fiji.

He was speaking to more than 500 people at the FijiFirst thanksgiving service at Subrail Park yesterday. The service was also attended by some Cabinet ministers and FijiFirst supporters in Labasa and surrounding areas.

The ministers present were the Minister of Lands and Mineral Resources Mereseini Vuniwaqa, Minister for Agriculture, Rural Development and National Disaster Management  Inia Seruiratu, and Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jiojie Konrote.

Mr Bainimarama said it was a morning for him, as the leader of FijiFirst, to say thank you.

“I want to thank our candidates, our supporters, our volunteers, our families for the wonderful encouragement, the hard work and faith you have had in us,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“I’m deeply honoured and humbled that the Fijian people have put their trust in me to lead them into our new and true democracy.

“I give you absolute promise that we will govern for the wellbeing of all Fijians.”

He said he wished to publicly thank the Republic of Fiji Military Forces who had stood by him since the events of 2000.

“It is their legacy that today we have a democratically-elected parliamentary government under an internationally acclaimed Constitution with a vast array of civil, political and socio – economic rights and that will deliver good governance and transparency,” he said.

He also thanked supporters for turning up in such great numbers across the nation to vote for FijiFirst. The thanksgiving service was led by Reverend Savirio Vuata of the Methodist Church’s Uluibau Circuit.
