Three Men Questioned On Sigatoka Death

Police have questioned three men in connection with the death of Josese Qaraniqio, 39, whose half-submerged body was found under a tramline bridge last Friday in Sigatoka.

He was found to have suffered visible injuries.

At this stage no charges have been laid, however the three suspects have been interviewed and released and Police are continuing investigations.

“Three men who were last known to be with the deceased have been interviewed and released as investigations continue,” Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said.

“A post mortem on the victim is expected to be conducted today at the Sigatoka Hospital.”

She said it was believed that the deceased, with five others, was last seen drinking near a tramline bridge near the Lawaqa Government quarters last Friday. The death has left the community in shock.

The deceased, an ex-military officer, was later found dead with three deep cuts on his forehead. He has served in the military from 1993-2011.

Distraught sister, Divane Waqaninavatu has confirmed that the deceased will be laid to rest at their village, Nabutubutu Village in Labasa later this week.

“Our family members are preparing for the funeral after my brother’s body is released from the Sigatoka Hospital,” Ms Waqaninavatu said.
