A sales supervisor of computer company, will know her fate next month after pleading guilty to a count of theft.

Roma Ronita Dutt, allegedly took two hard drives from her workplace in Samabula, Suva on October 29, 2012 for personal use.

The matter was reported to Police after a stocktake discovered two hard drives missing.

The matter was relayed to a technical manager who reported it to the company’s sales operations manager.

When Dutt was confronted she admitted keeping the hard drives at home and promised to return it the following day.  When the matter was reported to Police, she was escorted home to look for the hard drives which the Police didn’t find on the porch as the accused claimed.

The Police had informed the accused mother who was doing Diwali cleaning at the time to tell the father bring the hard drives to the Samabula Police Station when he found it.

The father of the accused, while giving evidence, said he was present at home, however this was denied by Police officers, who searched the house in his absence.

The court learned from the defence and prosecution witness that the accused had kept the hard drives with her for two weeks.

Magistrate Makereta Mua said she accepted the prosecution witness to be true and honest while she rejected the defence evidence after different stories were relayed.

She accepted the guilt of the accused and convicted her of theft.

The defence is to file mitigation submissions by November 19.
