Murder ‘Proper’ Trial Waits

The trial of a man accused of murdering his wife at a Tailevu village is ready to start, according to the Defence and Prosecution in the case.

However, both parties will have to wait for the completion of the trial within the trial that is expected to be over by tomorrow.

In the case, Sailasa Mociu has been accused of killing his wife at her village in Naisauma, Tailevu, on January 9 last year. He had earlier denied the charge when he first appeared in court.

The Defence and the Prosecution informed the court yesterday that they were ready to proceed.

State prosecutor Yogesh Prasad informed the court that the trial within trial was expected to finish on Wednesday.

Justice Temo ordered all his other cases to be put on hold till the murder trial finished. Mociu was transferred to the Suva remand centre upon instructions from Justice Temo.

The prosecution said they would be presenting three witnesses present within the proximity of the alleged murder and the alleged confession by the accused.

The alleged confession would be challenged by the Defence lawyer.
