Pinktober Reception On Friday

The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, in partnership with Westpac Banking Corporation and Tanoa Plaza, will stage a Pinktober reception in Suva on Friday.

The Minister, Rosy Akbar, said Pinktober was the month to commemorate those who had lost their lives to breast cancer and to celebrate the success of those who had survived it.

“Breast cancer affects women predominantly, therefore as the ministry responsible for the women’s welfare in this country we are concerned about the issue,” Mrs Akbar said.

She said they wanted to increase awareness about this issue throughout Fiji.

“The Pinktober reception aims to raise awareness on the need for women to seek regular medical examination and be aware about the causes and treatment for breast cancer.

“It’s about understanding what contribute to the disease and taking care of those who had survived cancer. We also need to understand those families who have suffered a loss because of breast cancer.”

She said the ministry would continue to strengthen partnership with Government and non-governmental organisations to support the awareness programmes, like Pinktober.

The Friday event will be held at the Tanoa Plaza in Suva from 6pm to 8pm.
