Tennis Fiji has started preparations for the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea scheduled for July 4-18 next year.

Upcoming tennis players such as Raynal Singh, Kunal Singh, Krishan Raju, Shivneel Chand and Ruby Coffin trained at the Nadi Sports and Social Club in Nadi last week.

Media liaison officer Sachin Reddy confirmed that trainings had begun last week.

“We’ve started training last week because playing in the Pacific Games will be tough,” team media officer Sachin Reddy said.

“That’s why we want to start early to get our team up to that fitness level.”

He said the players would undergo vigorous training sessions before eight players will be selected four weeks prior to the Pacific Games.

“It’s been long since we won a medal but this time we started early so that we can win a medal,” Reddy said.

Raynal Singh, Kunal Singh, Rugby Coffin and Prasund Lal have represented Fiji at the 2014 Pacific Oceania Junior Championships in September.

Tennis Fiji president Richard Breen invites more players to attend training.

“We are looking forward to more players from Suva and Lautoka training before we select the team for the Pacific Games,” Breen said.

“Trainings will be held at the Nadi Sports and Social Club every Saturday from 10am – 12pm and 2pm – 4pm and on Sunday’s from 10am – 12pm.

Breen the junior development programme is also held the same venue.The team will be coached by Rob Krause.
