Timber Exporter Plans To Build On Seminar

Timber exporter, Green Lumber Solutions Limited’s chief executive Jone Koroi, knows only too well the risks involved in exporting.
But Investment Fiji’s 2014 Export Awareness Seminar at Grand Pacific Hotel with Government presentation will strike out questions he wanted answers.
Green Lumber Solutions is located on Foster Road in Walu Bay opposite the Korovou Corrections Services.
It sources timber products from Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited where it secured a six-year licence, and is dependent mainly on mahogany.
The company started in 2011 with an investment of $80,000.
“I want to see what the tax department has to offer in terms of the duty concessions. It’s a way we can improve our business,” Mr Koroi said.
“Through this we (company) can know how to utilise Government machinery, like Investment Fiji and other Government departments to make our work easier.
“For us it’s a learning experience as we are still new. We would like to learn from old exporters who have been around.”
He said this was because fluctuating exports results in fluctuating cash flow.
During off-peak season, the company which employs workers on a casual basis can send at least one container to any of its existing markets in Australia, China, France and the Dominican Republic.
But when in season, at least four containers can be sent, which he says they are currently going through, hence helping their cash flow.
And it is these fluctuations and willingness to know more has prompted his attendance for the seminar.
For now Mr Koroi is focused on ways to improve and capitalise on resources available. He is also about to acquire two separate lands where he can process timber.
