Army retained their ANZ Ratu Sukuna Bowl cricket title after a three-wicket win over Police in Suva yesterday.

Winning the toss, Police elected to bat on a ground that had thankfully dried out enough for play following some morning Suva showers.

However the Army bowlers were generally disciplined and efficient, restricting Police to 8-82 runs at the completion of their 20-over innings.

Whilst they shared the spoils around, Josefa Dabea (3-14 off four overs) and Koto Tuapati (2-9 off four) both walked away multiple wicket takers.

Best with the bat for Police was opener Siteri Lesu, who top-scored with 34 runs and was one of only two Police batsman to reach double figures.

The second innings got off to a surprising start with experienced opener and Army captain, Joeli Mateyawa, being dismissed for a first-ball duck and leaving Army sitting on 1-0 in the first over.  However the experience a side steadied, thanks to solid knocks from Cinavi Nawai (20 not out), Sevuloni Baba (19), and Kitione Volai (16).  In the end Army reached their winning total of 5-83 in 17.2 overs.

Best with the ball in the second innings for Police was Sisaro Dautu, who took three wickets for 19 runs off his allotted four overs.

General Manager of Cricket Fiji, Inoke Lesuma, was in attendance to present the Army team with the Kaukauwa Perpetual Trophy.-
