Budget Will Say It All, Says Tuitubou

Government’s seriousness about youth and developments will show in the Budget, says Laisenia Tuitubou.

The Minister for Youth and Sports was speaking to participants of the 1st Global Forum on Youth Policies in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The 2015 National Budget will be announced  next month.

Mr Tuitubou held a bilateral meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, on Wednesday.

He updated him on Fiji’s progress on policy matters and forged on new partnership for the future.

Mr Tuitubou said Fiji was fortunate to be recognised and invited to such world events.

“It is where we rub shoulders with world youth leaders, policy makers, youth workers, researchers and learn from their experiences,” he said.

“And most importantly to sit and contribute in the discussions regarding the way forward for designing and implementing youth policies that are aligned to the World Programme of Actions for Youth.”

The 1st Global Forum was opened on Tuesday and attended by more than 700 delegates from around the world. It is hosted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan.

Mr Tuitubou is the only Minister for Youth and Sports from the Pacific region.

Papua New Guinea is represented by a non-governmental organisation.

Before his trip, he had held meetings with most senior officials of the ministry in the Central Division.

He will visit the staff of training centres in the Northern and the Eastern divisions when he returns from Azerbaijan next week.
