Women from Cakaudrove met at the Cakaudrove Women’s Expo at Rabi Island on Thursday.

The women of Kioa, Karoko, Tunuloa and Rabi had the opportunity to display their handicraft and artwork – some of which were made from coconut leaves and shells and other materials.

The chief guest, Rabi Council Magistrate Philip Corrie, said the event showed the hard work and dedication of the Banaban Women’s Organisation.

Mr Corrie said the income from selling the products would help feed families and most importantly, contribute to the Rabi economy.

“We have to work together for the betterment of this organisation and women must move forward and take a step ahead,” Mr Corrie said.

“Get your children educated and our challenge is to get this organisation to grow.

“The Government looks at assisting these kinds of projects. The display of various art and craft and project is a sign of your hard work and dedication.”

He told the women that their displays showed that they wanted to live life successfully.

“Continue your hard work and this will take you to another level.”

Meanwhile, Integrated Human Resource Development programme officer at the Commissioner Northern’s Office, Aslam Khan said the expo showed the talents and skills of the women.

“It’s also a time for the women to come together to socialise and catch up,” she said.
