In a bid to contribute to the fight against breast cancer in Fiji, the Pearl South Pacific Resort in Pacific Harbour held a Pinktober tea on Thursday.

The hotel’s general manager, Natalie Marletta, said they recognised breast cancer was in Fiji and wanted to contribute towards the fight against it.

“Of course, breast cancer is in Fiji and I think Pinktober is an education asset as well for all cancers in Fiji and I think we can all come together and all support the Fiji Cancer Society. We can make a difference so the Pearl took this opportunity and the staff, the managers, the directors are very passionate about it,” Ms Marletta said.

“We really want to contribute to make a difference in Fiji. We have guests from around Pacific Harbour, we have guests from Suva come down and some guests who are staying at the resort as well so we have had a huge support here today.”

The hotel was hoping to raise $5000 for the awareness and prevention of breast cancer in Fiji.

Fiji Cancer Society’s general manager, Rajshree Baleisuva, said the society had been honoured with the increasing support received from organisations recently joining the cause.

“It shows that people are concerned about people who are suffering. There has been a lot of support and

“I think people should not be sitting back now but they should come up and get their screening done,” Mrs Baleisuva said.

“The figures of cancer keeps increasing and instead of waiting for people to come up for the screening, as we go for awareness we want to do the screening on the spot.

“That is what we are looking at through the Pinktober donations we are receiving.”
