It was another milestone for the people of Labasa as the newly renovated North Pole Block B building was officially opened in Nasekula Road on Wednesday night.

Owned by Labasa businessman Vinesh Dayal’s VCorp Limited the building will contribute a lot to the Labasa economy.

The three-storey complex, which was refurbished at a cost of $2million, houses the new North Pole Hotel, retail outlets, eateries and the HFC Bank’s Labasa branch among others.

Speaking during the opening chief guest and HFC Bank chairman Tom Ricketts said VCorp Limited would create employment in the Labasa economy.

“HFC Bank and the VCorp Limited has been in a business partnership since 2009,” Mr Ricketts said.

“The business relationship began with a $800,000- funding in 2009 and it grew from there with further developments,” he said.

“With the booming activities in the North it does become extremely difficult to find accommodation,” Mr Ricketts said.

He said this new block ensured the growing need for accommodation in Labasa with increased visitor arrivals was covered.

“We also thank the new Government and its ministers who have vision and economic development plans for Labasa and other towns and centres here in the North,” Mr Ricketts said.

The VCorp Limited includes North Pole Hotels, rental properties, timber and block works and according to director Mr Dayal, they are also expanding their projects to Savusavu.
