The 2014 World Hockey League and the 2014 Oceania Hockey Competition will be held in Suva the December 6-13.

This was confirmed by Oceania Hockey Federation official Jill Gemming in Suva yesterday.

“It’s always been my intention to be back here in Fiji,” Gemming said.

“As far as coming to check on the organisation, Fiji has a history now of delivering excellent hockey tournaments.”

Gemming praised the organising committee led by Oceania National Olympic Committee administration services officer Hanisi Visanti and Fiji Hockey Federation official Tia Savu.

“The organising committee is really very well led by Hanisi and Tia and the whole volunteer group that has evolved over the last five to six years means they’ve been well-trained.

“From Oceania Hockey Federation, it’s not really about overseeing anything because we know the quality of what is being delivered is going to be at the highest level.

“It’s really just us working with Fiji Hockey and the organising committee to ensure that we both can work together to make this as good a tournament as we can.”

Gemming shared her high hopes for Fiji to emerge as top bets for the World League but expected Pacific rivalries to flair.

“I think Vanuatu, Samoa and Papua New Guinea certainly will want to win the gold medal.”

Fiji will be defending the men’s title while Australia Country will defend the women’s title.
