Our Ease Of Doing Business Rank Slips
Fiji’s ranking in the latest Global Ease of Doing Business list has slipped eight positions to 81 from the previous rank of 73.
Latest statistics from the World Bank has revealed this.
In this Ease of Doing Business ranking of 189 countries, Singapore, which Fiji ia aiming to emulate continues to remain at the top.
Fiji’s ranking dropped in nine of the 10 categories which the World Bank uses to determine the overall ranking. The only category where Fiji was noted to have improved was in Enforcing Contracts moving up two ranks.
In the Pacific, we have been beaten only by Tonga (69) and Vanuatu (76).
Meanwhile, Investment Fiji and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, have already been working on an online investment approval system. Thi sis designed to streamline processes. They hope to have this new system activated by the end of this year for all tier one agencies.
The Tier one agencies includes Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority, Investment Fiji, Reserve Bank of Fiji, Immigration Department and the Registrar of Companies.
