A roadblock at Laqere yesterday by the Police was for snap vehicle checks.

The divisional Police commander southern, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Biu Matavou, said this was a normal operation for them.

“We do this regularly just to check on vehicles and the safety of the people,” SSP Matavou said.

Police often set up roadblocks—also called checkpoints—where they stopped and inspected all drivers and vehicles passing along that point.

Every vehicle passing through the roadblock was stopped for a very short period.

However SSP Matavou said there were times when they would set up roadblocks for a specific purpose, like a search for an escapee from prison.

The DPC southern has appealed to all drivers within the Southern Division to be very careful and to respect the speed limits when driving.

He said the snap checks would continue over the weekend.
