Although they lost 3-2 to the more experienced Red Faith team yesterday at the FMF Gym, the teenage outfit – Highway from Laqere have become the new dark horses of the Digicel Suva Volleyball league.

Captained by Jim Elliot, 21, the team comprised of players Under -19 years who are playing in the competition for the first time.

Red Faith, formed by former players from the Kinoya association and led by former national reps Manasa Basaga and Tevita Vakataga, found the going tough against their unknown opponents.

The Premier challenge match was expected to be a one way battle but Highway made their intentions known early in the game.

The team is coached by Marist players and brothers Qilu Elliot, Philip and Anthony Foster who also live in the same neighbourhood.

Jim Elliot said they only played backyard volleyball but this year were advised by their mentors to take their game to another level by joining the Suva Volleyball Association.
