Call For More Women

Bodybuilding and Fitness Fiji wants more females to join the sport, says John Lee.

The BFF president made the announcement yesterday after the naming of a squad for the Pacific Games in Port Moresby next year.

Lee was also happy with the Mr and Miss Fiji Bodybuilding and Fitness Fiji contest held at the Holiday Inn Suva last Saturday.

“Usually this minor sport attracts a few supporters. However, last Saturday’s big crowd had been overwhelming and hopefully an eye opener to many who turned up,”Lee said.

“We hope the Miss Fiji event will create interest among women to take up the sport. Bodybuilding in the women category does not necessary limited contest to physique.

“There are other categories in fitness and beauty. It’s also a sport suitable for women to shape and build a healthy fit body through training and special diet.”

Lee said the sport was looking to expand their reach to cater for disabled athletes considering bodybuilding and fitness could positively contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

The women’s training squad consists of Haifa Work and Maryann Moss. while the men’s team features Gyanendra Maharaj, Nilesh Chand, Inoke Verebasaga, Sakiusa Kaukimoce, Varun, Ricky Visha Singh, Inoke Harvey Ligairi, Leweitasi Biliwaqa, Isimeli Waqabaca, Saimoni Leuta, Mosese Lalasava, Jekesoni Yanuyanudrua, William Robert, Sefanaia Cakautini, Voniriti Radua and Ben Saqata.
