Fiji Powerlifting Federation is confident of achieving success at the 2014 Asia/Oceania Powerlifting Championships in Melbourne, Australia on December 7-14.

This was after the success of the national trials held at the Charmans Gym in Suva last Saturday.

FPF president Eliesa Irava was pleased with the performance of those who turned up.

“We had some sub-juniors in Maria Chong, Sainimere Apariga and Ana Garnett who all performed well,”Irava said.

“In the Open grade, we had Elesi Ikanidrodro, Sainimili Turner, Jale Lolohea and Vincent Brandon who were all outstanding.”

Irava was happy with training opportunities for powerlifting officials.

“We were very fortunate to have the assistance of Pamela Gutjar and we really thank her for her assistance in helping lift the level of competition,”he said.

“We’re trying to arrange for Helen Pahulu and Lorenzo Fonmoa to train with international officials.

“Through Pamela’s assistance we’re really hoping to get Helen to go for training in Australia. And if things go well, she’ll be the first Fijian to be internationally accredited.”

Irava said the final team for the 2014 Asia/Oceania Powerlifting Championships would be confirmed next week.
