The National Fire Authority (NFA) held its first ever sports Awards Night in Suva last Friday.

Players were given awards for their achievements in the sporting arena.

The Fiji Bitter NFA rugby side scooped most prizes during the awards night for their wonderful effort in the RC Manubhai-sponsored Suva Rugby Union Premier Grade competition.

SRU president/NFA board chairman Commander Francis Kean applauded NFA’s performance in the SRU competition.

“The SRU is proud of NFA’s achievement this year and their players deserve this recognition for their hard work,”he said.

Commander Kean said the success of NFA reflected the growth of rugby in Suva.

He reminded the team and family that rugby was an important tool for NFA which would enhance the fitness of the firefighters and also assisted to build the trust between the community and NFA.

He stressed players should strive hard to try and get an overseas playing contract.

NFA lost to Police Blues in the Escott Shield final.

NFA Rugby Club president Qionilau Moceitai applauded the achievement for 2014.

“It’s been a proud journey for NFA in 2014,”he said.

“And without the dedication and hard work of our players, we wouldn’t be successful on the rugby field.”

The NFA rugby club was formed in 2010.

Moceitai also thanked NFA football and volleyball players.
