Concerns Over Poll Pay Addressed

Polling day officials who took part during the September 17 elections raised their concerns yesterday during the Fijian Elections Office Polling Day Workers Open Day in Suva.

The event provided an opportune time for the officials to enquire about their salary payments and conditions of employment.

Presiding officer Marika Cagilaba, 68, was among the hundreds who flocked to the Suva Civic Centre yesterday to query his salary.

Mr Cagilaba said he was not disappointed about the late payment of his salary but he questioned why his FNPF was deducted when he was already over the age of 55.

Nacanieli Delaimara, 63, confirmed he had already received his pay and that his FNPF had also been deducted.

However he said that upon checking with the FNPF, he alleged no money had been deposited into his account.

Meanwhile, Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said the Fijian Elections Office valued the efforts of all staff during the 2014 General Election and encouraged staff that still had queries to make use of the Open Day.

“The Open Day has been designed to address specific issues with individual staff and matters that are highlighted will be dealt with,” Mr Saneem said.

“We would like to thank our staff that has taken advantage of the Open Day.”
