Rosy Akbar To Hold Nation-Wide Talks

The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation said her ministry would be holding public consultations around the country.

Rosy Akbar said a schedule is currently being developed and people would be notified.

“The objective of these consultations is to relay information to the public on social welfare programmes and also to effectively address the people’s concerns regarding the delivery of our services,” Ms Akbar said.

She said they had started off with Labasa and had plans to reach out to all the cities, towns including rural and maritime areas.

“This would be an opportunity for the people out there to seek clarity and assistance regarding any of our social welfare programmes,” she said.

“These consultations will go on until we are able to reach out to all the communities in Fiji.” Ms Akbar said a major concern raised at the consultations was the delays in processing of social welfare applications. She said by reaching out they would be able to provide a swift response to people’s applications.

Meanwhile Ms Akbar will be in Namosi province on Friday to hold public consultations which will be chaired by Permanent Secretary Dr Josefa Koroivueta.
