Youngsters Among Script Finalists

Being the youngest females among the 22 finalists of the Fiji National University’s Script Competition does not stop them from pursuing their passion for writing.

Akansha Kumari, 16, a Year 11 student of Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College in Nadi and Jasleen Dewan, 15, a Year 10 student of Swami Vivekananda College also in Nadi, are the youngest among the 22 competing finalists.

Miss Kumari said she had a passion about writing.

“I read a lot of books and love writing. Someday I want to write a book of my own,” she said.

“I felt scared at first being one of the youngest because I saw that there are more experienced people in the competition. I thought again that it is through this that I will be able to gain experience and move higher.”

Miss Dewan said she took part because she felt scriptwriting was a way of expressing her feelings and ideas.

“Writing is also a passion for me and this competition will really help me express my ideas and feelings and also in developing my writing skills.”

The finalists now have three months to script their ideas after the workshop yesterday.
