50 Schools In Labasa Quiz

Primary school students were excited to attend a quiz competition organised by the Fiji Teachers Union (FTU) Labasa Branch yesterday at the Khatriya Hall with the theme “Child Our Hope”.

Speaking during the opening the principal education officer – Bua/Macuata, Kolinio Takali, said he was astonished to hear that around 50 schools had participated in the quiz competition.

“I believe that teachers are using quiz as a brief assessment to measure growth, abilities and skills,” Mr Takali said. “It is also a form of reinforcing school academic curriculums at the same time exposing children to public speaking.

Mr Takali explained that such activities boosted student’s confidence in a fun and constructive manner for both the participants and the spectators.

“Students get to know more about national and international current affairs relevant to what they learn in schools hence they know current happenings around the world,” Mr Takali said. “They also retain what they have learned for the long term through such competitions.

“This is because quiz is a form of test that motivates children to study, inspiring them with the skills of constant researching and memorising,” he said.
