No Regrets Leaving Hotel Job: Tubuna

Sixty-year-old Lui Tubuna has no regrets resigning from a hotel job as duty manager to be a full time market vendor at Nadi’s municipal market.

He worked in the tourism industry for 15 years and only started his business early this year.

“I have no regrets resigning from my work to sell root crops and vegetables here in the market,” he said.

“I chose to sell vegetables and root crops because I felt that it would be nice to be independent. So far things have been looking very positive for me.

“When I was working at the hotel I would usually rent out with my family but now I’ve bought a piece of land, have my own house with my wife,” Mr Tubuna said.

The Lomanikoro, Rewa native hopes for better weather during Christmas.

“All crops and vegetables require water and so far it is something that we are short of at the moment. We hope to receive more rain soon so that we can sell more of our goods,” he said.

His family has a canteen run by his wife, Sainimere Loloma and the couple’s three children are married.

“It is always good to give everything a try because you will never know the result unless you try. Starting this sort of small business is not easy but we have decided to give it a try and so far things are looking good,” he said.
