Surprise For Seniors

The Senior Citizens Home in Samabula got a lovely surprise as they were given a pool table by the Billiards and Snooker Association yesterday.
Senior Citizens registered nurse Neelum Kumar said they are extremely happy about the pool table as this will contribute to the daily activities for the residents

“We are so happy for they were kind enough to donate a billiard table to us,” Kumar said.

“We organise a lot of daily activities for our residents, such as playing cards, so this will be a huge change for them and for us.”
Kumar said the staff tries to keep the residents busy.

“We try our best to keep the residence busy so they don’t sit idle and this is perfect for them because they also get to stand and move around and not sit on one place.” she said.

Meanwhile, Billiard and Snooker Association president Bhatti Riffat said they are giving back to charity in a different way.

“Three weeks ago we had a charity snooker tournament and we collected $1500 and donated it to the Senior Citizens Home,” Riffat said.

“When we went there, they requested us to arrange a table for them to play on and so that is what we did.”

The pool table is sponsored by Sam Super Pool in Nausori and Riffat said they gave it to the Senior Citizens Home because snooker can be played by anyone.

“That is the good thing about snooker, it is and can be, played by nearly everyone,” he said.

“When you play soccer or rugby you can only play up to a certain age but snooker or billiard, anyone can play and enjoy it.”
