Be Generous Today

The Fiji Red Cross Society will be out in the streets starting from today shaking cans and calling on the people of Fiji for their kind support towards their Annual National Street Appeal.

The society’s director-general, Filipe Nainoca, said the appeal would give the people an opportunity to help in the good work that they were doing.

“We have 14 active branches across Fiji and 55 volunteers who will be out and about calling on the people’s generosity for help,” Mr Nainoca said.

He said the 14 branches had set their own targets.

“The Fiji-wide staff, volunteers and supporters of the Red Cross will be proudly wearing the society’s emblem and will be giving out Red Cross stickers to those giving donations.”

Mr Nainoca said they would also be knocking on the doors of companies asking for their support.

“Please open your hearts and give generously because your contributions will enable the society to continue serving our people and our communities.”

He said the society needed the people’s help to protect those who needed it the most.

“We need to embrace the forgotten, nurse the hurt, help the vulnerable, comfort those suffering, fight stigma and discrimination and most of all to protect and nurture human dignity.”

Mr Nainoca said people could also support them by texting.

“For Vodafone and Inkk users text “Red Cross” to 812, Digicel users text “Red Cross” to 170 and each text costs 50 cents and all proceeds go towards the National Appeal.”

The appeal will end on November 15.
