Fiji Will Host Corrections Chiefs Meeting

The Fiji Corrections Service will host the Asia-Pacific Corrections Chiefs Conference in 2017. This is a big breakthrough internationally for Fiji Corrections Service, says its Commissioner, Lieutenant-Colonel Ifereimi Vasu. He said the meeting would involve corrections chiefs and administrators from Asia-Pacific countries which include two of the biggest economical powerhouses in the world – China and India. “We have continued to attend the conference because this is how we can showcase Fiji in regards to looking at Fiji as a whole and looking at corrections and how we can showcase the world our rehabilitation programmes even though we are small,” Lt-Col Vasu said. “This involves all corrections administrations in the Pacific and Asia including China, India, Hong Kong and all those big countries within the Asia-Pacific region. “The preparation is already there. We have put together a team and we have submitted our paper to the Government.” While the date was yet to be determined, Lt-Col Vasu said the meeting would take three to four days.
