Social activist Chandra Shekhar will be buried today with the dignity that he lived his life.

The former chief executive officer for Save the Children Fiji died at the age of 56. He died on Tuesday, November 4 after suffering from a long-term sickness.

His wife Prem Shekhar said her husband lived an exemplary life.

“His local government career ended when he was appointed the CEO of Save the Children Fiji. He worked tirelessly to bring this organisation to where it is today.

“He championed the cause for the poor and disadvantaged in his work when he was at Save the Children,” Mrs Shekhar said.

“His dedication to this organisation is difficult to measure but he has left his mark in this institution. He retired from it because of his health condition. His urge to serve the disadvantaged of the country did not end there. He founded Help a Child Trust to continue his service to disadvantaged and poor children of Fiji.

“Recently this organisation ran Rotary contests around the country both at primary and secondary school level. He was honoured with Medal of Order of Fiji in 1999,”she said.

“On the religious front, he dedicated his life to Christ. He was Pastor of Exodus Fellowship Suva and continued preaching until recently.

“His work during disaster included providing for school children, lunch packages, school bags and stationery and other provisions for their education,: she said.

Mr Shekhar’s funeral church service will be at Ebenezer Church in Nakasi today at 10am.
