Usamate Backs Investigation

New Minister for Health and Medical Services Jone Usamate says investigations into the ministry are necessary.

“The Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) investigation must continue. If they find that something is not right in the ministry, then they must go on with the Investigation in order to find out the truth,”Mr Usamate said.

The former minister, Dr Neil Sharma, has not responded to Fiji Sun requests for a comment. He has declined to comment to other local media. But Radio New Zealand had quoted him saying he was unaware of any investigations involving his conduct.

FICAC said it was conducting a general investigation into the ministry.  It is understood the investigations are centred around alleged abuse of office among other allegations, according to what are claimed to be leaked documents. Internal investigations are also taking place to find out how the confidential documents were leaked.
