Labasa Police are investigating the death of a 13-year-old girl who was believed to have fallen from a mango tree at Tuatua, Labasa, on Friday afternoon.

Emele Raidole, a Year Seven student of Guru Nanak Primary School was believed to have been fetching mango alone near her home when the incident happened.

She was adopted by couple Reverend Akuila Curu and his wife Milika since she was an infant.

Mrs Curu said Emele returned home from school on Friday with her husband in a taxi.

“As soon as Emele got off, I told her not to go anywhere. She was a very curious child,” Mrs Curu said.

“I did not know that she slipped out to climb mangoes. We knew about the incident when my daughter Mariana came running saying that Emele was lying under the mango tree.

“We ran out and saw that Emele was unconscious, so we rushed her to the hospital, but it was too late,” Mrs Curu said.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police Fulori Rainibogi, said investigations would continue.
