Rosy Plans For Recipients

Government has more help for our senior citizens and people receiving help from the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.
Minister Rosy Akbar yesterday said foodpacks could be delivered to recipients, especially those living in remote rural areas and those facing transportation problems.

This follows revelation last week that social welfare allowances would be taken to recipients.

Ms Akbar had been receiving complaints from recipients in rural and maritime areas that they had been burdened by transportation costs in gaining access to their monthly allowances.

“The ministry plans to deliver the benefits right to our clients other than having to spend money on transport to travel to towns to access their allowances, we are working with village headmen and the provincial councils to identify areas that will need this service,” Ms Akbar said.

“The welfare allowances which the ministry provides on a monthly basis, we want those to be spent on the welfare of your families and not in paying for the transport costs.

“Similarly, for the food vouchers, we will look at the option where the foodpacks that you need can be delivered to you on a monthly basis.

“So that you don’t have to spend money to travel to towns unless you choose do to so. You will be given choices.” She also reassured the villagers of Nakavika in Namosi last Friday in her public consultation trip that she would ensure there would be no delays in the processing of their applications.

“Through the consultations, there were some applications that had been pending for a year. We don’t want that. You have my word that when your applications come to our office, I have allocated a time framework of maximum of six weeks of processing time, within which you will be informed of the outcome,” she said.
