23 Complete Directors Course

Twenty-three Fijian executives successfully graduated from what is said to be the largest directors’ membership body in the world, the Australia Institute of Company Directors, through the Fiji Directors Course.

The participants were recognised during a cocktail event at the Grand Pacific Hotel.

Permanent Secretary for Public Service Commission and Fiji Roads Authority interim chairman, Parmesh Chand, was amongst the four who graduated with an Order of Merit.

The others who graduated with the Order of Merit include Nitesh Chand from Fiji TV, Fantasha Lockington from Housing Authority and Nigel Skeggs of Port Denarau Marina.

Mr Chand encouraged those in the executive to take advantage of the course given its world-wide recognition.

“We went through an intensive course, about this time last year and much of the programmes quite useful to me,” he said.

“I’m happy that I’ll be able to further progress on this one and there’s a lot more that one can do in terms achieving international accreditation and is all good for me professionally as well as in Fiji because really you need qualified directors.”

As a Government official, he urged the more participation from the public sector to ensure best director practices were observed.

Meanwhile, facilitator and former Fijian Judge and Justice of the Court of Appeal, David Ashton-Lewis, said: “It’s important to have courses like this is the whole standard of operating and running corporate entities.

“Whether they be Government entities or publicly-listed is they must be well run, they must comply with the Governance laws of the country and they must also produce performance,

“Because a healthy company produces good returns to either the Government who returns to the people or to shareholder.

– Parmesh Chand – Permanent Secretary for Public Service Commission and Fiji Roads Authority interim chairman.
