As the festive season starts, the Fiji Police Force remains alert on the increasing number of road offenders on Fiji roads.

This follows statistics collected in the last 11 months on the number of dangerous driving and overspeeding.
Police said 29,000 drivers have been booked for overspeeding this year.

“Overspeeding is one of the leading causes of road accidents,” Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro said.
She said motorists needed to understand that they had a responsibility towards road safety and everyone must play their individual parts.

“In the same period we have a total of 868 bookings recorded for non-compliance with seat belt regulations while 38 bookings were made for driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence.”

The Fiji Police Force is urging drivers to be concerned with their safety and that of others while on the roads.
