Fiji Ports Corporation Limited will host a consultation workshop with stakeholders, to align its policies and procedures, anticipated to result in adapting best practices from both ends.

The consultation regarding New Health, Safety and Security Policies and Procedures, already in draft, is expected to host a range of feedback from the stakeholders.

Fiji Ports chief executive Vajira Piyasena said it was a very important area given that the said document was very much connected to external parties.

“So what we are doing and while we are doing other things such as operational, technical improvements, is we are moving to other policies and procedures and the governance aspect at higher level,” Mr Piyasena said.

“We will see whether further improvements are required before the management will finalise the draft, and naturally, the board will endorse.

“The purpose of the policy, procedure and development exercise is to bring up the organisation to a higher level and to meet the modern organisation.”

While the relationship state-owned entity lacked previously, with the development the policy and procedures, the ultimate goal of best practices would be witnessed at all levels. The policy is pursuant to the International Convention Obligations and local laws, Fiji

Ports is introducing 30 new policies and procedures.

The whole-day consultation will be held tomorrow at Fiji Ports head office at Muaiwalu House in Suva and on Tuesday next week at the Returned Service’s League Hotel in Lautoka.
