This was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport Commander Francis Kean.

He said Government vessels have been carting water to: Kadavu- Dravuni and Buliya; Lau Group- Totoya, Kabara, Ono-i-Lau, Ogea, Fulaga, Namuka, Komo, Nayau and Oneata; Lomaiviti Group- Batiki, Koro and Motoriki; Yasawa- Bukama, Teci, Nacula, Yaqeta, Vuaki, Tamasua, Yaqeta, Viwa, Soso, Marou and Solevu; Mamanuca Group and Vatulele.

“The Government Shipping Service has been liaising and assisting the Commissioner Eastern and Western during the recent long dry spell experienced in Fiji,” Mr Kean said.
He pointed out that a total of 3,160,000 litres of water had been distributed to these islands.

“The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) in their support to these operations had waived all water costs to assist our citizens in the maritime islands who were severely affected by the recent long dry spell.
Mr Kean said GSS ships Vunilagi, Vatulawa and Sigavou were involved in the operations.

“Fiji Water also donated two 20 foot containers of bottled water which was distributed by the NDMO to schools and medical facilities in the rural areas of Viti Levu,” he added
