Fiji will benefit from President Xi Jinping’s visit.

From Fiji’s Embassy in Beijing, China, Ambassador Esala Teleni said they had done their part and everything was now with Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.

He said he had a meeting with the Ambassadors in the Pacific in Beijing about the visit. Tonga and Samoa had wanted President XI to visit them as well.

However, they were told that as part of President Xi’s visit he would be having a meeting with the Pacific leaders.

This was also confirmed to the Fiji Sun in Suva by Ratu Inoke.

Mr Teleni said Tonga was prepared to send a special plane for President Xi to fly over to Tonga.

A release from the Department for Information said there would be memorandums of understanding to be signed.

On the President’s delegation he said there would be about 100 including the security detail.

Fiji Sun had also been told that the security from the security forces would be tight for President Xi.

Mr Teleni has just returned from Fiji and said he might be back in Fiji when President Xi visits.

Also he would be attending the Head of Mission consultation November 17 – 18.

Fiji’s consular general in Shanghai, Neumi Leweni, is currently in Fiji to attend this meeting.

With his absence from Shanghai, Fiji’s First Secretary in Beijing, Josefa Tuima will be officiating at the launch of the direct flight from Shanghai to Fiji.
